For Black Panther sensor, the “Reset” button performs three functions, depending on when and how long it is pressed:
- When the sensor is connected to BlueZoo servers, a short-press (less than 1 second) instructs the sensor to look for a firmware update. If an update has been scheduled, the short-press will cause a Black Panther sensor with v4 firmware to download and install the update, rather than waiting until the nightly reboot. [Note that short presses of the Reset button don’t add any value with v5 firmware because the sensor checks the servers for firmware updates every 30 seconds.]
- When the sensor is powered up and stable, a long-press of greater than 5 seconds (10 seconds works well) will reset the firmware to its configuration after the last firmware update, deleting sensor configuration data like Wi-Fi backhaul credentials. If no update has been applied, the sensor will be returned to its factory condition.
- When the sensor is not powered up, holding down the Reset button, inserting the USB cable to power up the sensor, and keeping the Reset button depressed until the LEDs have blinked six times, will cause the sensor to start up, running the sensor’s industry-standard “U-Boot” boot loader which permits the user to install any BlueZoo firmware image desired (e.g. v4, v5, etc).
