To turn on the Black Panther sensor, first connect an Ethernet cable if you will be using Ethernet for backhaul. Next, plug the micro-USB connector (connected via a USB cable to the power adapter) into the sensor’s micro-USB port.
The sensor requires minimal power (5V 1A) and can be powered in multiple ways:
- Via a wall outlet using the BlueZoo-provided power adapter
- Directly from a powered USB 2.0 outlet
- Through Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) using a suitable PoE splitter, available from BlueZoo
Internet backhaul
The BlueZoo sensor supports multiple internet backhaul options, allowing you to connect it to the cloud using one of the following methods:
Ethernet:
If you're connecting to the internet via Ethernet, simply connect the RJ-45 cable to the WAN port of the sensor and wait about one minute after having plugged it to power.
You should see a green LED light up in the middle position, indicating that the sensor is online and communicating with the BlueZoo cloud.
Wi-Fi:
To use Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet, you need to communicate to the BlueZoo sensor the credentials of the Wi-Fi access point you plan to use. You can either:
- Set up the Wi-Fi connection in the BlueZoo Foot traffic Analytics mobile app, during the new sensor onboarding process, or select an existing sensor location and tap "Configure Wi-Fi Connection"
- With the sensor connected to the internet via ethernet, use dashboard.bluezoo.io to set the Wi-Fi credentials to be used by the sensor.
Be sure to review the onsite network requirements to ensure network compatibility.
Cellular:
You can use a cellular modem for internet backhaul by selecting one of the cellular modems tested by BlueZoo. BlueZoo provides Vodafone “USB Connect 4G V2 IK41US USB Dongle Modem” cellular modems. First, insert the nano SIM card into the modem, and then insert the modem into the usb port of the BluZoo sensor.
- BlueZoo-provided Vodafone SIM cards require theBlueZoo sensor to be configured with an APN string of “sims.bluezoo.io”.
- If you are using a different SIM card you will need to update the APN on the sensor to correspond to your SIM’s cellular service. You can configure the APN of the sensor (to match that of your SIM card), by connecting the sensor via Ethernet to the internet and then using the BlueZoo dashboard.
Please refer to the following help article for detailed instructions on connecting a cellular modem and configuring the required APN settings. This is especially relevant if you're using a SIM card not sourced from BlueZoo: How to set up a USB cellular modem to a BlueZoo sensor
